My children and now my grandchildren have grown up visiting the Natural History Museum. It is such a treat to see that familiar look of wonder on my grandchildren’s faces every time we visit. The Museum and its iconic Victorian building are steeped in rich history and the overall message has remained the same throughout time – to preserve the past and shape the future.

Preserve the past and shape the future
Your support as a Patron will help us fulfil our ambitions by:
- creating learning and engagement programmes
- advancing our scientific research
- helping us to care for the invaluable collections we look after
For almost 150 years, we’ve been working to classify and understand the natural world.
We’ve celebrated the richness of the planet, inspired the public and fuelled scientific research.
The world-class collections we care for contain more than 80 million specimens, spanning 4.6 billion years of life on Earth.
Since declaring a planetary emergency in 2020, our ambitions have grown, and we’ve pledged to:
- be a powerful catalyst for change
- find solutions to the most pressing environmental issues
- inspire a generation of advocates to act for the planet
Together with you, we want to and believe we can create a world where both people and planet thrive.

Our 150th anniversary plans
We’re turning 150 in 2031. Your patronage will help us revitalise our building and create more advocates for the planet.
