However, AI is not neutral. Without robust oversight, AI’s advantages will be unevenly distributed, and its harms will be felt disproportionately. It is therefore important to support organizations and networks centering public interest considerations in the governance of AI to ensure AI’s benefits are widely shared and risks are prevented and mitigated.

At its core, our work supports research, policy development, and practice focused on AI evaluation, auditing, and accountability mechanisms. These practices are essential to strong AI governance because they build trust, ensure safety and security, and protect human rights. In addition, we make investments exploring emerging areas at the intersection of technology and society.
