Outreachy
Outreachy provides internships in open source. Outreachy provides internships to anyone from any background who faces underrepresentation, systemic bias, or discrimination in the technical industry where they are living.
Outreachy internships are:
💵 Paid – $7,000 USD total internship stipend
🌍 Remote – both interns and mentors work remotely
🕰 3 months – internships run May to August, or December to March
Internships are not linked to employment opportunities at supporting organizations.
Work on Open Source
Outreachy has internship projects in open source. Outreachy internship projects may include programming, research, user experience, documentation, graphical design, data science, marketing, user advocacy, event planning, and more!

Important dates
June 2025 internships:
✍🏿 Intern applications accepted from February 7 to February 15, 2025
🙋🏽 Mentors sign up until March 14 at 4 pm UTC
📑 Applicants contribute to projects from March 17 to April 15
🙌🏿 Internships run early June 2 to August 29, 2025
December 2025 internships:
✍🏿 Intern applications are accepted from early August to mid August
🙋🏽 Mentors sign up from early August to late September
📑 Applicants contribute to projects from late September to late October
🙌🏿 Internships run early December 2025 to early March 2026

Supporting Diversity in Open Source
Outreachy is a diversity initiative of Software Freedom Conservancy.
Outreachy's goal is to increase diversity in open source. Past Outreachy interns are:
♀️ 92% women, ♂️ 4% men
🏳️🌈 4% transgender, genderqueer, or non-binary people
🧕🏾 64% people of color, 36% white
🧑🏿 12% people from a historically disadvantaged caste or tribe
Statistics are based on responses to the 2019 longitudinal study of Outreachy alums, and they're based on self-identification.
Outreachy invites all applicants from any background to apply. Outreachy openly welcomes women (both cis and trans), trans men, and genderqueer people to apply. We also expressly invite applications from residents and nationals of the United States of any gender who are Black/African American, Hispanic/Latinx, Native American/American Indian, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian, or Pacific Islander.
Anyone who faces under-representation, systemic bias or discrimination in the technology industry of their country is invited to apply. Mentor Outreachy Interns
We are seeking open source communities to be mentors for the June 2025 internship cohort. Important dates are:
- February 6, 2025 – mentoring organization sign-up opens
- February 26, 2025 at 4 pm UTC – mentoring organization sign-up deadline
- March 14, 2025 at 4pm UTC – project submission deadline
