I always appreciate your writing and your gorgeous photography. I’ve loved your year of the sea star (though I’m often a bit jealous of your more temperate beach options and access to tidal pools!). I can’t wait to see where your new focus leads you. I’ve only chosen a OLW three times and I really like how you have moved to choosing a phrase or theme. This year I’m considering choosing OLW to begin after my 59th birthday as I enter my 60th year of life. I’ve been thinking a lot about how I want to live that year. Here’s to caring with a full heart!

I will be posting my word tomorrow with some trepidation. How can one word serve a whole year? How can we know what we will face in the coming tide? There are things to notice in the places we are now. That beach heart is a priceless gift you get from being where you are. Thanks for sharing.

I, too, love picture books. My husband laughs at me and says I buy picture books instead of shoes. He’s right. My granddaughter thought my house was a library when she was little. From what you’ve shared this one sounds like a keeper, one that might be a good mentor text for examples of craft moves. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks! I seldom write a review or even give stars — but this book is a keeper!

(A potentially expensive post to read tonight.) I love that you read it to students twice and they noticed more the second time. You captured that perfectly.

Be sure to share if you do this with your grandson! First grade writers are the best!

I love all that you do with your students. He loves drawing and writing, so I want to do this activity with him. Painting with words is a great way to connect art and writing. Your post makes me miss this part of teaching.
